October 8, 2001 - He has scored some memorable goals...but Sunday's strike in the World Cup qualifier against Honduras will always be remembered by Stern John and everyone who saw it. Speaking after the match, John revealed how he had Trotman's nickname "Blacks" tattooed on his left calf a day after the player died. He now intends to dedicate all goals scored with his left foot to the former Arima Senior Comprehensive striker. "The victory was really nice. Luck was on our side but sometimes you need luck. We got the victory for Mickey. He was there with us," said John. John said he broke down in tears while the match was going on. "When I scored, I was really emotional. After about five minutes I just broke down in tears. I was lying on the ground crying and couldn't move. Shaka saw me and he too got emotional. I think he was saving with tears in his eyes. This goal is for Mickey and his family," John said. "Everytime I put on my boots and score with my left foot, I will remember him. Everybody was in tears when we huddled after the match. He was smiling at us. Mickey always wanted to win and he would have been really happy. I am sure he was there with us," ended John. The Nottingham Forest striker was due to return home with the rest of the T&T contingent last night and will attend Trotman's funeral today at the Santa Rosa Roman Catholic Church from 3.30 p.m. |
